Which LEV has the Best Autonomous Tech?

June 22nd, 2022 by

The Tesla Autopilot system is currently the most advanced autonomous tech available in an LEV. However, other models, like the Jaguar I-PACE and Audi e-tron have highly advanced autonomous features as well. At Ray Catena Auto Group, our knowledgeable staff can help you learn all about the impressive features in any of the cars in our LEV lineup so you can make a better informed choice.

Many people hear about “autonomous features” in luxury electric vehicles as their mind immediately goes to “fully self-driving.” But that technology does not exist yet. However, limited autonomous tech is available in many top LEV models. The most famous example is Tesla’s Autopilot features. Before getting into specific models, we should discuss what Autopilot can and cannot do.

What is Tesla Autopilot?

While the prospect of a fully self-driving car is exciting and closer than ever, even Tesla Autopilot is not quite there yet. However, that does not mean Tesla’s autonomous features are not still impressive. Tesla Autopilot is at the forefront of self-driving technology. Here are some of the things Tesla Autopilot is capable of:

  • Match speed of surrounding traffic
  • Provide automatic steering within clearly marked lanes
  • Suggest and assist with lane changes
  • Autopark
  • Summon vehicle

Tesla’s official website issues a disclaimer warning that “driver supervision” remains essential even when Autopilot features are activated.

These features come standard with all new Tesla models. But Tesla is not the only manufacturer with autonomous technology available in their EVs. Here are some of the best non-Tesla models in terms of autonomous tech.

Mercedes Benz EQS Luxury Electric VehicleMercedes-Benz EQS Technology

The Mercedes-Benz EQS has a lot of great tech in its design. Its highly advanced cabin and elite battery range are some of the vehicle’s highlights. But the EQS also boasts some excellent autonomous features as well. Adaptive cruise control features help drivers maintain proper speed and distance during extended highway trips. Lane keep assist makes it easier than ever to stay safe on the road. And with remote park assist, finding a place to park your car has never been easier.

Audi e-tron Technology

Like the EQS, the Audi e-tron SUV features adaptive cruise control assist and parking assist standard. In fact, the suite of autonomous features from these two manufacturers are very similar. One additional feature that the e-tron has is navigational road assistance. With this technology, your vehicle can actually read its built-in navigation system to determine road conditions ahead of time. This allows it to do things like adjusting your cruising speed in anticipation of sharp turns ahead. And, of course, features like lane keep assist, active speed monitoring, and braking and acceleration assist are all available.

Jaguar I-PACE Technology

British luxury manufacturer Jaguar hit the ground running with its first fully electric vehicle. The I-PACE is an LEV SUV with some of the most robust safety and autonomous features on the market. Adaptive cruise control, navigational speed assist, and parking assist are all standard features. A few other standard features really help the I-PACE stand out. These include road sign detection, driver monitoring, and active emergency braking. With autonomous emergency braking, the I-PACE can provide ample warning if it detects an oncoming frontal collision. And, if no action is taken by the driver, the I-PACE will apply the brakes itself. With all of these standard autonomous features, the I-PACE is one of the safest vehicles on the road.
