BMW says 5 Series sedan gets top crash test ratings

BMW says its 2011
5 Series sedan has been chosen as a top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
As such, it received the rating of "good" for each of the IIHS tests, including front and side impact and roof crush. The 2011 5 Series now joins the 2009
BMW 3 Series and
X4 and
X5 crossovers on the list.
"Safety has long been a priority for
BMW, so earning a Top Safety Pick from IIHS means a great deal," said Jim O'Donnell, president of
BMW of North America.
IIHS rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal or poor based on performance in high-speed frontal offset and side impact crash tests. It also evaluates rear crash protection and head restraints.
