How Long Can I Drive My Lexus RZ?

December 30th, 2024 by

The 2024 Lexus RZ is the second edition of the RZ, following the model’s 2023 debut. The RZ is a luxury electric SUV from Lexus that delivers pristine comfort on the road. And, of course, as an LEV, it liberates drivers from the need to ever use a gas pump again.

But one of the first questions any new LEV owner should ask is how long they can drive their new car. So, here is everything you need to know about the range and battery of the Lexus RZ.

Lexus RZ Range

The 2024 Lexus RZ has a range of up to 266 miles in ideal conditions. This means that most drivers can enjoy multiple days of driving in their RZ before they need to recharge. For reference, 266 miles is roughly the distance between New York City and the state of Maine.

Lexus RZ Charging Information

The Lexus RZ is available in multiple trim levels with two different battery capacities available. The RZ300e is equipped with a 72.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, while the RZ450e AWD offers 71.4 kWh of total battery capacity.

All Lexus RZ models are compatible with both Level 2 AC charging stations and Level 3 DC charging stations. Using a 220V Level 2 charger, the RZ can reach a full charge in roughly 10 hours. Using a Level 3 DC charger, the RZ can reach its charge capacity in approximately one hour.

Battery Life Tips for Lexus RZ

It’s important to remember that all EPA range estimates for EVs assume ideal driving and battery conditions. However, ideal conditions are not always a reality. With that said, there are steps you can take to keep your Lexus RZ’s battery running more efficiently for longer.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures

Extreme heat and extreme cold can both damage lithium-ion batteries. Prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can shorten your EV battery’s life and reduce its total capacity. Keeping your EV parked inside whenever possible is ideal. If that’s not an option, parking in shaded areas on warm days is recommended.

Don’t Overcharge

Too much charging is actually a bad thing for luxury electric vehicles. It is usually recommended to keep your battery between 20-80% capacity at most times. Charging every night when it’s not necessary can reduce the overall capacity. Likewise, allowing your battery to dip below 10% can also cause it to work less efficiently.

Drive Responsibly

Rapid acceleration will drain your battery more quickly. Try to be mindful of your speed and acceleration to maximize your range between each charge.

Don’t Overuse DC Chargers

DC Fast Charging is very convenient, but too much of it can reduce the total charge capacity of your battery. DC chargers should be reserved for emergencies or longer road trips. Level 2 charging is recommended for routine EV charging.
