The XM comes right out of the gate with power to impress, featuring a twin-turbo V-8 and plug-in hybrid system. The 2025 model year of the XM features only minor updates compared to the previous year, but that doesn’t make this beast any less impressive. The XM continues to show why BMW remains a top contender in the EV game.
Let’s jump into the exciting parts of the XM, starting with the performance. As mentioned, the standard XM features a twin-turbocharged V-8 and a combined hybrid system, which delivers a whopping 644 horsepower. This allows the XM to achieve a 0-60 in around 4.1 seconds, which is pretty incredible for an SUV.
If you’re hungry for a bit more power, you can opt for the XM Label, which bumps the horsepower up to an astounding 738.
The XM features a 25.7 kWh battery, which BMW says is good for around 30 miles of electric-only driving. The onboard charger can charge the battery up to full in just a bit over three hours. The fuel economy side leaves a bit to be desired, with the EPA estimating the XM to get 12 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.
On the tech side, the XM features a massive curved display that runs across most of the dashboard. This display includes the digital instrument cluster and infotainment center. For standard infotainment, the XM offers the latest iDrive 8.5 software and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. However, there are several optional features as well, including SiriusXM satellite radio, Wi-Fi hotspot, and premium sound system.
The interior cabin of the XM makes it a joy to get in every time. It features leather upholstery, a faux-suede headliner, and subtle accents to highlight the edges of the cabin. Everything about the XM cabin feels high-end and premium, which is everything you would expect from BMW.
Stepping past the power and performance, BMW made sure the XM was equipped with ample safety features as well. Standard features include automated braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. There are also additional available features, such as adaptive cruise control with lane centering, and more.
