Tips for Better LEV Battery Life

Lexus RZ charging time and range estimates are based on calculations under ideal conditions. There are steps you can take, as an EV owner, to help your EV battery run longer and more efficiently.

Re-Charge Before 10%

Allowing your battery to fully run out before recharging can shorten its overall lifespan and charge capacity. Try to recharge your battery when it’s around 20% capacity whenever possible. Similarly, charging to 100% capacity all the time can reduce the battery’s lifespan. Keeping the battery between 20-80% capacity most of the time is recommended.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures

Extreme temperatures, in either direction, can damage lithium-ion batteries overtime. Keep your vehicle parked indoors during extremely hot or cold days whenever possible. If you must park outside on hot days, try to find shaded areas.

Don’t Rely Exclusively on DC Fast Chargers

DC Fast Chargers are quick and convenient, but overusing them can reduce your battery’s total capacity all the time. LEV drivers should use Level 2 chargers as their primarily charging option, reserving Level 3 chargers for longer road trips and emergencies.

Don’t Charge Every Night

Over-charging your EV can shorten the battery’s lifespan. Only recharge when you need to, like if you are planning a long drive the next day, or your battery is around 20% capacity.
