Future LEV: Lexus RZ
The Lexus RZ 450e is a fully-electric crossover SUV from Lexus. It will be the first all-electric model made by Lexus, joining an extensive line of hybrid electric Lexus vehicles. The RZ will have a range of up to 220 miles on a full charge. The new model also comes equipped with a wide array of luxury features
The Lexus RZ is expected to make its American debut in early 2023. Once it hits the roads in the US, it will officially be the first fully-electric Lexus vehicle. The Lexus brand is no stranger to electric vehicles, however. The Japanese luxury automaker has a full line of hybrid electric vehicles already available around the world.
The Lexus RZ will be a fully electric luxury SUV. It will share its platform with the also-new Toyota bZ4X, with an enhanced powertrain and tons of added luxury features. With the RZ slated for release in early 2023, let’s take a look at the specifications and features it offers.
Lexus RZ Performance
Lexus has engineered a specialty all-wheel drive system for their first fully-electric vehicle which they are calling DIRECT4. The all-wheel-drive system is perfectly calibrated to enhance acceleration, stability, handling, and efficiency.
The RZ will also operate on dual electric motors – one front and one rear motor. Together, the motors will provide a combined 312 horsepower, going from 0-60 MPH in 5.2 seconds.
Lexus RZ Charging
While this is the first dedicated all-electric vehicle from Lexus, they are not rookies when it comes to EVs. As such, the Lexus RZ should perform very well in terms of efficiency. The 65.6 kWh battery provides up to 220 miles of range on a full charge. That figure is on par with most other crossover luxury electric SUVs.
The RZ also offers standard charging times for an electric SUV. Using a Level 2 charger, the RZ should reach a full charge in about 12.5 hours. With Level 3 DC Fast Charging, the Lexus RZ can be fully charged in 30 minutes.
Lexus RZ Technology & Design
The exterior design of the Lexus RZ is very modern. Its bold headlights and sleek curved roof give the SUV a very distinct look. The initial RZ is currently available in seven distinct color schemes, with blue, black, and silver serving colors featuring heavily.
Inside, the RZ is equally impressive. The RZ’s cabin takes a bit of a minimalist approach, emphasizing comfort and convenience with luxurious accents. The central infotainment touchscreen display houses many of the controls that drivers and passengers need. An available head-up display helps keep the driver’s focus on the road at all times.
Lexus has elected to favor a traditional rounded steering wheel as the standard on the RZ. A yoke-style steering wheel is also available to drivers who prefer it.
RZ drivers will have all of Lexus’ most advanced connectivity features available to them. The Lexus Interface feature allows for remote connectivity and voice-controlled access to a wide variety of features. Drivers can control their music, set the temperature, or set navigation points remotely in the Lexus RZ.
Lexus has also equipped the RZ with its most advanced safety and driver assist features yet. Highlights include Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, pre-collision detection, lane departure warnings, and parking assist.
