What LEVs Are The Best for Off-Roading?
The 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Plug-in Hybrid and Range Rover Sport Plug-in Hybrid are two of the best luxury electric vehicles for off-roading. Other top models include the Audi e-tron Sportback and Jaguar I-Pace.
Luxury electric vehicles get a lot of attention for their efficiency and low maintenance costs. But as electric vehicle technology gets more sophisticated, EVs deserve more attention for their performance as vehicles. Electric cars are not just an efficient alternative to gas engine cars. Modern EVs can perform as well, or better, than many of their gas powered counterparts.
There are many categories to judge electric vehicles by in terms of performance. Range, handling, technology, and power are a few that get used fairly often. But what about the best luxury electric vehicle models for off-roading?
Not all LEVs are suited for off-road driving, but some can handle difficult terrain much better than most drivers expect. Here are some of the best luxury electric vehicle models for off-road driving.
Land Rover Range Rover PHEV and Range Rover Sport PHEV
Arguably the best luxury electric vehicles at handling rugged off-road terrain are either of the Range Rover Plug-in Hybrid models. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport PHEVs both deliver on their name brand reputation. Range Rover vehicles have long been known for their rare blend of power and elegance. These plug-in hybrid SUVs do not sacrifice any of that power in order to achieve better efficiency. With 51 miles of electric range, these models also go further on electric-only power than many plug-ins.
In addition to the plug-in hybrid models, Land Rover is set to debut a fully electric Range Rover in late 2023. While it’s not out yet, you can expect the electric Range Rover to excel at off-road driving as well.

Audi e-tron Sportback
The Audi e-tron is a highly reliable and versatile luxury electric vehicle. Several e-tron models, including the baseline trim, can handle off-road driving. The e-tron Sportback, however, gets the nod as the best of the bunch. With over 400 horsepower and available off-road driving mode, the e-tron is well-equipped to handle difficult terrain. In off-road mode, drivers can access a short, but potent burst of additional power, from 240 to 300 kW.
The e-tron’s power and flexible driving modes make it well-suited for off-roading. But drivers can also feel comfortable during their off-road excursions too. The e-tron is equipped with a supremely comfortable cabin and many high-tech features. On top of that, the e-tron and e-tron Sportback both have over 225 miles of range, meaning drivers can venture far off the road without any range anxiety.

Jaguar I-PACE
A luxury electric vehicle model that offers surprising performance off the road is the Jaguar I-PACE. Jaguar is normally known for their elegant and refined vehicles. But the prestige of the I-PACE, the brand’s first electric vehicle, is underscored by some serious power. The 2023 I-PACE delivers 394 horsepower and 512 lb.-ft. of torque with all-wheel drive transmission. But what really helps the I-PACE excel off-road is its high ground clearance and wading depth. With 6.5 inches of clearance, the I-PACE has an impressive wading depth of up to 20 inches.
In addition to all of this, the I-PACE also offers 246 miles of range. Drivers can spend even more time exploring the great outdoors in comfort and style in this luxury electric SUV.
